Zander Lombard took over on Saturday as the leading South African in the DP World Tour’s Singapore Classic at Amata Spring Country Club near Bangkok as he carded a bogey-free five-under-par 67 to move into a share of 11th.
Lombard has had a good run over the past couple of weeks on the DP World Tour, and he overtook Thriston Lawrence as the leading South African after Lawrence slipped out of contention with a four-over-par 76 dropping him down to six-under through 54 holes and a share of 42nd.
Lombard moved to 12-under ahead of the final round, and that was six strokes behind the leader, Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark. Olesen had an eight-under 64 to hit the front at 18-under, and he led by two from fellow-Dane Nicolai Hojgaard and Yannik Paul of France. Joost Luiten of the Netherlands was in fourth on 15-under after bogeying the last to card a seven-under 65.
Lombard made just a single birdie on the font nine, but he picked up four strokes on his way home, on the 11th, 12th, 15th and 17th.
Jayden Schaper sliced through the field with a six-under-par 66 to climb into a share of 20th on nine-under, and Daniel van Tonder had a three-under 69 to reach seven-under for the tournament in a share of 33rd. Thomas Aiken was in a share of 42nd with Lawrence after a two-under 70, with Justin Walters in a share of 50th on five-under after a 70. Louis de Jager had a one-under 71 to move to a share of 59th on four-under.
