Zander Lombard played himself into a share of third on Friday after a second round of three-under-par 68 in the DP World Tour’s Cazoo Open de France at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.
Lombard made five birdies on his opening round after teeing off on the 10th, dropping a shot on the 12th. He was unable to make any headway on his homeward nine, making just a bogey on the second after the turn.
At seven-under, he was five shots off the lead which was held by England’s Jordan Smith. Smith had a seven-under 64, including two bogeys, to lead by three from Ewen Ferguson of Scotland. There were five other players in a share of third with Lombard.
Louis de Jager slipped to a two-over 73 to reach halfway at three-under and a share of 20th, with Bryce Easton one shot further back in a share of 33rd on two-under after a one-under 70. Hennie du Plessis was on one-under through 36 holes after a second round of two-over 73. Also on on-under was Thriston Lawrence who had a level-par 71.
Jayden Schaper, Tristen Strydom, Thomas Aiken, Wilco Nienaber and JC Ritchie all missed the cut.
