Doug McGuigan led the way through the Legends Tour Qualifying School-Stage One on Tuesday at the Gloria Golf Resort at Belek in Turkey after he carded a second-round score of five-under-par 67.

That sees him into the Qualifying School-Final Stage at the same venue which gets underway on Friday. The top five players at the conclusion of Final Stage will earn full playing rights for the 2023 Legends Tour season, giving them the opportunity to play alongside many greats of the game including Pádraig Harrington, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Paul Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie and Paul McGinley.

McGuigan, who plays under the Scottish flag, added his 67 to an opening round of three-under-par 69, and that saw him finish one clear of Scotsman Greig Hutcheon. England’s Simon Griffiths was in third on six-under through 36 holes, Scotland’s Paul Blaikie in fourth on five-under and Ireland’s Damian Mooney in fifth on four-under.

Other South Africans who made it through were Callie Swart on six-over, together with amateur Henk Geldenhuys, and Steve Waltman on seven-over.
