Gregory Mckay eagled the first hole on Wednesday on his way to a two-stroke victory in the Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour’s Race to Q-School #3 at Randpark Bushwillow, carding a five-under-par 67 to pull clear of the opposition.

Mckay bogeyed the fifth, and then kept his card clean until the turn while the players ahead of him on the leaderboard at that stage were battling to establish any kind of advantage. After the turn, he didn’t drop a shot while making four birdies to finish the tournament on 15-under-par, two clear of Arno Pretorius, who also came through the field, carding a six-under 66.

Herman Loubser was third after a closing 68 took him to 12-under, with Kyle McClatchie’s three-under taking him to a share of fourth in 11-under. Also in fourth was second-round leader Ruan Groenewald, who started the final round on 15-under, the eventual winning total, but slipped to a four-over 76, with five bogeys coming on the homeward nine after he turned in one-under, despite making a double-bogey seven on the third.

Slade Pickering, who had the low round of the tournament in the second round with his 10-under 62, found that lightning doesn’t strike twice and he signed for a closing level-par 72 for a tournament total of 10-under and sixth place.

Mckay withstood some serious pressure down the stretch: He was level with Groenewald on 13-under going into his final two holes. While Groenewald bogeyed 16 and 17, Mckay birdies 17 and 18 to pull clear for the win.
