It was Keegan McLachlan’s turn to card a six-under 64 on Tuesday, and his bogey-free effort took him to the top of the leaderboard on the Bushveld Tour’s Hayes Family Trophy-Elite Series #1 at Killarney Golf Club.
McLachlan made three birdies on each of the nines, and in doing so, overhauled first-round leader Kyle Barker, who had to settle for a three-over 73 which saw him slide to fifth place on three-under after 36 holes and ahead of the final round.
McLachlan held a one-stroke lead over fellow Sunshine Tour professionals Matthew Spacey and Luke Brown, who had rounds of 67 and 66 respectively to move to five-under.
On a leaderboard stacked with Sunshine Tour pros keeping their hand in ahead of the tour’s resumption next month, Louis Albertse was in fourth on four-under after his 66. Then came Barker, who was followed by Regan Steyn, Ruan Korb, Coert Groenewald and Samuel Simpson shared sixth on two-under.
Rounding out the top 10 were Estiaan Conradie and Luke Mayo, who shared 10th on one-under.
