Shaun Norris went bogey-free on Friday in the second round of the European Tour’s BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried in Munich, Germany to move into a share of seventh ahead of the weekend.
He carded a three-under-par 69 to move to eight-under for the tournament, three shots behind the leader Niall Kearney of Ireland. Five players share second on nine-under, two behind Kearney, including world number 14 Viktor Hovland of Norway.
Norris, who made seven birdies in his opening 67, picked up shots on three, 16 and 17 in the second round as he led the field in driving accuracy, greens in regulation and scrambling. With 32 putts in his second round, he will know that an improvement in that department will go a long way to putting him in a good position to win a first European Tour title.
Behind him, South Africa’s nearly man in major championships, Louis Oosthuizen signed for a second-round of five-under 67 to ease himself into position to strike over the weekend. He reached halfway at seven-under in a share of ninth, four strokes back from the lead.
One stroke behind Oosthuizen in a share of 18th were Darren Fichardt, Justin Harding, Justin Walters and JC Ritchie. Louis de Jager shot a four-under 68 to be in a share of 33rd on four-under. Jacques Kruyswijk was on three-under after a level-par 72, in a share of 42nd with Daniel van Tonder who carded a one-under 71. Zander Lombard and Dean Burmester made the cut on the number at two-under after rounds of 73 and 71 respectively.
Bryce Easton, Thomas Aiken and Brandon Stone missed the cut, while Haydn Porteous retired.
