Shaun Norris benefited from his share of second place in the Jonsson Workwear Open at the weekend as he climbed 114 places on the latest list issued by the Official World Golf Ranking.

After languishing for most of the year so far well below the world’s top 400 players, and substantially off his career-high ranking of 54^th, Norris climbed to 335^th place as he took advantage of being one of a number of good South African performers in the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned tournament at Glendower Golf Club.

He reached 54^th place on the world list back in 2020 with a share of sixth in the pre-LIV Golf era in a very strong field. His regular good performances on the Japan Golf Tour during recent years kept him as a fixture inside the world’s top 100, but he has slipped substantially since then. Being in contention at Glendower over the weekend seems to have reignited his performance levels as he seeks to get back to the kind of heights he was accustomed to.

Oliver Bekker was another player who grabbed his chances well at Glendower, as he climbed 46 places to 362^nd. It could have been even better for Bekker had he not made double-bogey at the last in pursuit of an even better finish than his share of sixth.

Thriston Lawrence, who shared the runner-up spot at the weekend with Norris, was up 11 places to 78^th, and Louis de Jager was up 14 places to inside the world’s top 250 as he reached 249^th with his share of 11^th.

Erik van Rooyen and Christiaan Bezuidenhout are still South Africa’s top two players according to the official ranking system, as they continue to benefit from being on the PGA Tour which dominates the world rankings.
