Louis Oosthuizen shrugged off a double-bogey on Friday to card a four-under-par 66 in the first round of the LIV Golf International tournament in Boston and be in a share of fifth after the first round of the 54-hole event.

Oosthuizen also had seven birdies on his card, and a bogey, as he finished the day three shots behind the lead which was held at seven-under by Americans Matthew Wolff and Talor Gooch. They led by one from new signings Cameron Smith of Australia and Joaquin Niemann of Chile.

Wolff’s 63 included the first hole-in-one in LIV Golf’s history, while Gooch had just a single bogey on his card.

Oosthuizen shared fifth with Kevin Na, Bernd Wiesberger, Paul Casey and another new signing in India’s Anirban Lahiri.

Branden Grace was on three-under in a share of 10th with, among others, Dustin Johnson and Harold Varner III. Charl Schwartzel was a shot further back on two-under in a share of 18th, and Shaun Norris was on level-par in 31st, as was Scott Vincent of Zimbabwe.

In the team contest, the all-South African Stinger GC was in a share of fourth on seven-under, four shots behind the leaders Hy Flyers GC consisting of Phil Mickelson, Wiesberger, Wolff and Cameron Tringale.
