While the leader was running away with things on Saturday, Lee-Anne Pace kept herself inside the top 20 with a four-under-par 68 in the second round of the Ladies European Tour’s Aramco Team Series at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia.
Pace’s bogey-free round moved her to nine-under-par through 36 holes, and, with the final round looming, she was in a share of 15th. The only problem was that Alison Lee of the United States signed for her second successive 11-under-par 61 to move to 22-under with just 18 holes left. Lee had a six-stroke lead over Carlota Ciganda of Spain, whose second-round 63, together with her opening 65, paled into insignificance when compared to the stunning scores from the leader.
Pace was in a three-way share of 15th, and just one stroke outside the top 10. While the chances of winning are clearly very slim, another good round could get the multiple South African Women’s Open champion comfortably inside the top 10.
Casandra Alexander had her second 71 in a row, and, at two-under, was in a share of 57th. Also there, and right on the cut, was Nicole Garcia, who needed her second-round 70 to get into the final round.
