Pierre Pellegrin of Mauritius came from three shots back on Thursday to card a one-under-par 71 at Glendower Golf Club and claim a two-stroke maiden professional victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Race to Q-School #8.
Amateur Louis Liebenberg had carded a super second round of eight-under 64 to head into the final round at nine-under, but an eagle on the eighth sparked Pellegrin’s run for home. In the meantime, Liebenberg was battling his way to a closing four-over 76.
Pellegrin made that eagle, four birdies and five bogeys to edge ahead of Liebenberg, who shared second on five-under-par with Graham van der Merwe and Stals Swart. Francois van Staden, Tyrone Ryan and Otto van Buynder shared fifth on four-under.
Werner deyzel rmains at the top of the Race to Q-School Order of Merit, with Van Buynder in second and Swart third.
There are 13 tournaments in the series, which will be followed by the Tour Championship on May 2 at Ebotse.
