Haydn Porteous made his first cut in 15 tournaments on the DP World Tour on Friday when he carded a one-under-par 70 in the second round of the Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.

Together with his opening one-under, his move to two-under for the tournament took him to a share of 11th place heading into the weekend, just five shots off the lead which was held by France’s Julien Guerrier. Guerrier signed for a three-under 68 to lead by two from American Johannes Veerman and England’s Callum Shinkwin.

Porteous last made a cut in the Steyn City Championship back in March, and he finished that tournament in a share of 40th. That, and his share of 10th in the Dimension Data Pro-Am, are his two best results of the year.

The 2016 Joburg Open champion and two-time winner on the European Tour, as it was then, made three birdies and two bogeys in his second round, exactly as he did in the first.

Behind him, Bruce Easton also had a one-under 70 to move to one-over at halfway and a share of 28th. Louis de Jager was also on one-over after a second-round two-over 73.

Jacques Blaauw made the cut with a one-under 70 taking him to two-over in a share of 39th. Darren Fichardt also made the cut, but battled to a six-over 77 to slip to four-over for the tournament and a share of 64th.

JC Ritchie, Brandon Stone, Oliver Bekker, Wilco Nienaber and Jacques Kruyswijk all missed the cut.
