It was a shaky start again for Aldrich Potgieter on Friday as he made a bogey and a double-bogey in his first four holes, but he pulled things back with a two-under-par 70 in the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship in Norman, Oklahoma.

The tournament is Potgieter’s professional debut after he was the second-youngest champion ever in last year’s Amateur Championship, and he made one more bogey and six birdies to move to seven-under-par for the tournament after his opening 67. That put him in a share of 24th, five strokes off the lead which was held by Tim Widing of Sweden.

After Potgieter made his double when he had two shots to get out of the rough when he missed the fairway from the fourth tee box. He steadied the ship with two pars, then he started on a run of four birdies in five holes around the turn to get himself into red figures. Another birdie came on the 13th, but he made another bogey on the 15th. He rounded off his day with a closing birdie on 18.

As he settles in to his professional debut, he will be happiest with his driving, where he is ranked second in the field for distance off the tee at an average of 348.6 yards. He will be looking to calm things down by becoming more accurate than his current 57.14 percent of fairways hit. And if he can find some form with his putting, he will be able to take better advantage of the fact that he has hit 72.22 percent of the greens in regulation.
