Aldrich Potgieter’s tilt at winning a PGA Tour card ended on Monday with a closing round of four-over-par 74 seeing him to drop to a share of 82nd in the PGA Tour Q-School presented by Korn Ferry in Florida.

In fact, he had probably dealt his chances a fatal blow with his opening eight-over 78 in the first round, but there was a chance he could have bounced back and taken something from the experience after he had a second round of seven-under 63.

A one-under 69 in the third round saw him continue trending in the right direction, but the weather affected final round saw him slip outside the top 45 who would get some sort of Korn Ferry Tour status.

The top five won their PGA Tour cards, the next 25 finishers and ties were guaranteed 12 starts and those up to the top 40 and ties earned eight guaranteed starts. All will be subject to category reshuffles. So a one-under closing round would have got Potgieter some starts.

Potgieter made four birdies, six bogeys and a double-bogey in his final round.
