Arno Pretorius carded a four-under-par 67 on Monday in the opening round of the new season of the IGT Challenge Tour to take a one-stroke lead after 18 holes in the Road to the Sunshine Tour #1 at Wanderers Golf Club.
Pretorius made five birdies and a bogey to lead Maritz Wessels, Ryan van Rosenveldt and Reece McKain, with five players in a share of fifth a further shot back on two-under-par 69.
Pretorius started his round on the first, and made pars on the first and the second. He made birdie on the third, but dropped a shot on the fifth. But he quickly got over that with a birdie on the sixth, and another on the eighth saw him turn in two-under 36. He made another immediately after the turn on the 10th, and then finished his scoring for the day with a gain on the 13th.
Wessels made six birdies and three bogeys in his 68, while Van Rosenveldt made an eagle, four birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey in his round. McKain made five birdies and two bogeys.
There are 17 tournaments scheduled on the Road to the Sunshine Tour series, with a play-off set for December 5 at the Wanderers, and the Tour Championship for the following week on December 12 at Centurion Country Club.
