Paula Reto closed with a three-under-par 69 on Sunday to finish in a share of 32nd in the LPGA Tour’s Buick LPGA Shanghai at Qizhong Garden Golf Club in Minhang District, Shanghai, China.
After her opening round of two-over 74, Reto buckled down and had a second round of two-under 70 and a third round of five-under 65 to get herself back into the tournament.
She made two birdies on the front nine on Sunday, before dropping a shot on the 11th hole. A birdie on 13 and a bogey on 14 followed by birdies on 16 and 17 as she moved to eight-under-par for the tournament.
That put her 16 strokes out of the play-off between Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul and Minami Katsu of Japan. Thitikul came from four shots down with five holes to play to force the play-off with Katsu, before producing another extraordinary shot on the fifth play-off hole to claim the title.
Minjee Lee, who won her third major title at the Women’s PGA Championship in June, shot 68 on Sunday for a 19-under 269 as her challenge faded through the middle part of the round for a third-place finish.
Ashleigh Buhai closed with a two-under 70 as she finished in a share of 40th on a tournament total of six-under-par.
