Paula Reto and her playing partner Amelia Lewis of the United States combined for a betterball total of eight-under-par 62 n Friday in the second round of the LPGA Tour’s Dow Championship at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan.

Reto contributed eight birdies for her part as the pair raced into a share of 18th in the team event that started the day before with fourballs, or alternate shot. They carded a one-under 69 then to be in a share of 28th, five shots off the lead.

At nine-under through the halfway mark, they were just three strokes off the lead which was shared by five pairs at 12-under. There were three pairs on 11-under, and nine on 10-under.

Reto’s round of 62 with Lewis wasn’t the best of the day: Celine Boutier of France teamed up with Japan’s Yuka Saso for a 58. Boutier was on fire, making seven birdies in a row on the front nine. She had four more from the ninth, but even that score wasn’t enough to get them into the lead as they were in a share of 22nd on eight-under.

The Norwegian duo of Nanna Koerstz Madesn and Nicole Broch Estrup fired a 60 in the second round to share the lead with Grace Kim of Australia and Auston Kim of the US, the Taiwanese pair of Ssu-Chia Cheng and Wei-Ling Hsu, the Thai par of Jaravee Boonchant and Chanettee Wannasaen, and America’s Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho.
