Paula Reto had three birdies and three bogeys on her card on Friday in the second round of the LPGA Tour’s Blue Bay LPGA at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course, Hainan Island, China on her way to a level-par 72.
She started her round with five consecutive pars, but she dropped shots on the sixth and seventh. She made up for that with consecutive birdies on eight and nine. She dropped another shot on the 12th, and made up for that with her third birdie of the round on the 14th.
She heads into the weekend in a share of 22nd on one-under-par. That was six strokes behind the lead which was shared by Japan’s Nasa Hataoka and Australian Cassie Porter. Their seven-under-par total put them one shot clear of another player from Japan, Rio Takeda, with Gabby Lopez of Mexico and Auston Kim of the United States in a share of fourth on five-under-par.
Hataoka shot a six-under 66 and Porter was in with a 68. Jeeno Thitikul, the LPGA’s number-two ranked player, shot a 73 and was five shots off the lead. Home favorite Ruoning Yin of China, ranked four by the LPGA, shot a 74 and was nine shots behind.
The 36-hole cut fell at four-over-par, with 15 players on the number, and 73 making it through to the weekend.
