Paula Reto made two birdies and a bogey on each of her nines on Thursday to card an opening two-under-par 69 in the first round of the LPGA Tour’s Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Los Angeles, California.
She opened with a bogey on the first, but birdies on seven and nine got her into the red numbers. A dropped shot on the 10th was followed by a birdie on 11 and another on the 14th, and she ended the day on a share of 14th place.
She was five strokes off the lead which was held by Canadian Maude-Aimee Leblanc, who had a bogey-free 64. That put her one stroke in front of Malia Nam of the United States, with four players in a share of third on five-under.
Ashleigh Buhai had two birdies and three bogeys on her way to a one-over-par 72 and a share of 61st place.
Leblanc tied her career-low 18-hole score. “I felt like I hit ball really well today and whenever I missed the green I was able to make up and down,” said Leblanc, who was the only player to go bogey-free.
