Rigardt Albertse defeated amateur Ryan van der Klis in a play-off on Wednesday to win the Bushveld Tour’s Bushveld Series #1 at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate.
Albertse made it a good couple of weeks for the family after brother Louis won on the Sunshine Tour in the Kit Kat Cash and Carry Pro-Am at the end of May, and he led from start to finish in the 54-hole tournament with rounds of 66-73-75. He managed to hold on for the play-off after Van der Klis closed with a 74.
Albertse got off to a good start in the final round, making birdie on the first hole, but after that, things got a little tense for him. He made bogeys on five, eight and nine ahead of the turn, before dropping two more shots on 11 and 16. He made his second birdie of the day on the 17th to ensure he got into the play-off.
It was a tough day on Serengeti, with the best scores being a pair of one-under 71s as no-one else broke par in the field of 40 who made the cut.
The tournament was the first in a series of eight that will be played between now and the end of August.
