JC Ritchie overcame a quadruple-bogey nine on Saturday to keep himself in contention in the HotelPlanner Tour’s Interwetten Open at Schladming-Dachstein Golf Club in Oberhaus, Austria with a three-under-par 66 in the third round.
Ritchie, who had picked up an eagle on the fifth, and two more birdies on the front nine, made his nine on the 12th hole. He was able to regroup quickly, however, and he made two birdies in a row on the 13th and 14th, before picking up another on the 18th as he moved to 14-under-par for the tournament and a share of fifth.
That put him just two strokes off the lead, which was held at 16-under by Austrian Maximilian Steinlechner, who also carded a three-under 69 to be a shot clear of England’s Ben Stow, Scotsman David Law and Filippo Celli of Italy. Ritchie shared fifth with David Lundgren of Sweden through 54 holes.
Behind Ritchie, Jovan Rebula made six birdies and two bogeys on his way to a third round of four-under 65. At 12-under, he was in a share of 11th. Oliver Bekker had a five-under 64 to be in a share of 22nd on 10-under-par.
