Martin Rohwer led the South African charge on Thursday in the first round of the Challenge Tour’s Range Servant Challenge at Hinton Golf Club in Malmö, Sweden with his four-under-par through 15 holes before play was suspended overnight.

There were five players – all of whom had completed their rounds – on seven-under-par 65 sharing the lead of the first tournament on the Challenge Tour after the opening three events in South Africa. Borj Verto of Spain, Norway’s Espen Kofstad, Pole Mateusz Gradecki, Scotland’s Craig Howie and Swede Christofer Blomstrand all led by one from four players on six-under.

Rohwer made a solitary birdie on his opening nine without dropping a shot, and birdies on 10, 12 and 14 put him right in the early mix of the tournament.

Oliver Bekker had completed his first round, and started with a solid three-under 69. Last week’s Dimension Data Pro-Am winner, Wilco Nienaber was also done for the day on two-under, while Jacques Blaauw, who only had his clubs arrive the day before the tournament started, was on level-par and has work to do to make the cut in the second round. Bryce Easton was on four-over.
