Jayden Schaper climbed 38 places on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list issued this week after his second-successive top-five finish on the DP World Tour took him to third place in the KLM Open in the Netherlands.

Schaper finished in a share of fifth in the previous week’s Austrian Alpine Open to reach 212th, and he was up to 174th after another great week saw him become South Africa’s eighth-best golfer according to the official rankings.

It was his second-best performance according to the rankings, after the tournament which catapulted him to the attention of South African golf fans, the Alfred Dunhill Championship of 2020 where he finished in a share of second. He earned 8.45361 points with his performance in Holland as he edged closer to Daniel van Tonder, who is rated South Africa’s seventh-best player.

What’s extraordinary about Schaper’s rise is that he has done it all without a professional win – either on the Sunshine Tour, the HotelPlanner Tour, or the DP World Tour.

The man who took his maiden Sunshine Tour title at the weekend, Samuel Simpson, also got a great leg-up on the rankings, climbing a massive 351 places to a share of 746th. That was reward for his victory in the Mopani Zambia Open in Kitwe.

South Africa’s top-ranked golfer on the official list remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who was down two places to 69th. Erik van Rooyen and Thriston Lawrence are the only other South Africans inside the world’s top 100, in 76th and 90th respectively.
