Jayden Schaper overcame a bogey on his third hole of the day on Thursday to card an opening round of three-under-par 69 in the opening round of the Challenge Tour’s Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in France.

Starting his round on the 10th, Schaper dropped a shot on the 12th, but he got that stroke back immediately on the 13th. He made birdies on 15 and 16 and again on 18 to turn in three-under 34. He dropped a shot again on the first, and regained that stroke on the third. That gave him a share of 15th.

He was four shots off the lead which was held by Scot Craig Ross, who made a bogey on 18 after being flawless for the rest of his round. His 65 gave him a one-shot lead over Matthew Baldwin of England and France’s Jerome Lando Casanova.

Bryce Easton was on one-under in a share of 42nd, while Ruan Conradie and Pieter Moolman were on one-over. Deon Germishuys and Jacques Blaauw were on two-over, and Luke Jerling was on four-over after the first round.
