Neil Schietekat carded the round of the day on Saturday with a five-under-par 66 setting him up for a tilt at the title on the final round in the Asian Tour’s International Series England at Close House near Newcastle.
Schietekat made seven birdies, including three in a row on the final three holes, and two bogeys as he moved to eight-under-par for the tournament. That was just one off the lead which was held by LIV Golf player Andy Ogletree, who had a 67 on his way to nine-under. In third, one behind Schietekat were Matt Jones of Australia, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer and Spaniard David Puig – the latter two also from LIV Golf.
Schietekat made a birdie on the fourth early on in his round, but dropped a shot on the sixth. He immediately rectified that error with three consecutive birdies from seven to nine ahead of the turn. There was another bogey on the 12th, and then his closing run of three birdies in a row.
Next best of the South Africans remaining in the field after the cut was Jaco Ahlers, who had a third-round 69, that to-under moving him to three-under for the tournament and a share of 10th, six shots off the lead.
Dean Burmester had a two-over-par 73 in the third round to slip to level-par through 54 holes and a share of 20th. MJ Viljoen signed for a four-over 75 to head in to the final round in a share of 67th, and Jbe’ Kruger carded an eight-over 79 to move to nine-over and a share of 71st.
