Charl Schwartzel made double-bogey on his second hole on Sunday, but rallied to sign for a two-under-par 69 in the third round of LIV Golf’s Chicago event at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
That saw him finish on six-under for the 54-hole event in 20th place. He was seven strokes behind the winner, Bryson DeChambeau, who trumped Marc Leishman of Australia and Anirban Lahiri of India by one shot. Sebastian Munoz of Colombia was fourth on 11-under-par.
Schwartzel followed his double with a birdie on the next hole, the 17th, after starting on the 16th in the shotgun start. He made three more birdies, on two, 10 and 11.
On the same score as Schwartzel was Louis Oosthuizen, who carded a level-par 71 for 23rd. Dean Burmester also closed with a 71 to finish on six-under and 24th place in the 48-man field.
Branden Grace had a one-under 70 to move to three-under and 30th.
The South African team, Stinger GC, finished in eight place on 19-under, 14 strokes behind DeChambeau’s team, Crushers GC.
