Charl Schwartzel popped a second round of six-under-par 66 on Friday to move into a share of 12th place at the halfway mark of the Asian Tour’s International Series Philippines at Sta Elena Golf Club.

His round started on the 10th hole in the best possible way as he made an eagle-three on the par-five, and birdies on 12 and 16 saw him turn in four-under-par 32. He dropped his only shot of the round immediately after the turn on the first, but he picked up shots on the third, fourth and seventh to move to seven-under-par through 36 holes.

He was seven strokes behind the leader, Sarit Suwannarut of Thailand, who added 66 to his opening eight-under 64. Suwannarut led by four from Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines and Japan’s Kazuki Higa.

Schwartzel shared 12th with six other players, including compatriot Dean Burmester. Burmester carded a second-round of two-under-par 70.

One shot behind them in a share of 19th were Jaco Ahlers, who also had a two-under 70 in the second round, and Zimbabwean Scott Vincent, who signed for his second consecutive three-under-par 69.

The other Vincent, Kieran, made the cut after his four-under 68 in the second round, but Ian Snyman, Louis Oosthuizen and Jbe’ Kruger all missed out on the weekend’ action.
