Just a single bogey in the final round of the Challenge Tour’s Challenge de Cadiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri in Cadiz, Andalucia, Spain prevented JJ Senekal from making it into a play-off for the title on Sunday.

Senekal closed with a five-under-par 67 to move to 14-under-par for the tournament, and a share of seventh place. Six players finished on 15-under and contested the play-off on the par-three 18th. Sam Hutsby of England eventually won on the third extra hole, making a par to Frenchman Julien Sale’s bogey. The pair had made birdies on the first extra hole, eliminating Filippo Celli of Italy, France’s Clement Berardo, Dane Nicloai Kristensen and Jesper Svensson of Sweden.

Senekal got after the leaders early on in his final round, making an eagle on the second hole. He followed that with birdies on the fourth and sixth, but then he made his bogey on the seventh. He was unable to pick up that lost stroke on the par-five eighth, and missed out on the next par-five, too, the 11th. He made two more birdies on his way in, on the 13th and 17th, but it left him just one shot out of the play-off.

Dylan Mostert finished just outside the top 10 with a closing two-under-par 70 taking him to 11-under and a share of 13th. Keenan Davidse and Jaco Prinsloo were in a share of 19th on nine-under after closing rounds of one-over and level-par respectively.

Tristen Strydom, Casey Jarvis, Martin Vorster, Haydn Porteous, Albert Venter and Luke Jerling all missed the cut, as did Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Folloett-Smith.
