Shaun Norris gritted his way to a level-par 72 on Sunday as he finished the DP World Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Championship at Al Hamra Golf Club in Ras al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates in a share of 16th.
Norris made three birdies and three bogeys to stay at nine-under-par for the tournament. That left him a yawning 13 shots behind the winner, Alejandro Del Rey of Spain. Del Rey rounded out his maiden DP World Tour win with a closing 66. It was his third score of six-under for the week, and it put him four strokes clear at 22-under of Marcus Armitage of England. Spain’s Davi Puig closed with a 65 to take third place on 15-under-par.
Norris had gone into the final round in third place, but his solid overall performance for the week still sees him rise one place on the Race to Dubai rankings to third, a consequence of his victory in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December.
Behind Norris, Thomas Aiken edged towards the top 100 of the Race to Dubai, his closing 68 seeing him finish in a share of 22nd on eight-under. He was up 45 places to 103rd.
Dylan Naidoo battled to a two-over 74 in the final round and finished on five-under in a share of 51st, while Deon Germishuys had a level-par 72 and was on four-under in a share of 44th.
Dylan Frittelli was in 50th on three-under after his 71, while Jayden Schaper, Ryan van Velzen, Brandon Stone and Louis de Jager all went over-par in the final round to finish on one-under in a share of 61st.
Casey Jarvis had a wretched weekend, with rounds of 75 and 76 leaving him at the bottom of the list of players who made the cut on five-over in 73rd place.
