While his final round on Sunday was his only score in the 70s, Erik van Rooyen would have been happy with his share of fourth in the PGA Tour’s Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina as preparation for the major championship ahead.

Van Rooyen closed with a one-under-par 70 to move to 15-under-par for the tournament. That was seven shots behind the runaway winner, Chris Gotterup of the United States, who closed with a four-under 67 for a six-stroke win over countrymen Alistair Docherty and Davis Thompson. Van Rooyen shared fourth with five other players, including, amongst others, Ryan Fox of New Zealand and Jorge Campillo of Spain.

Van Rooyen’s final round was punctuated with too many bogeys. He dropped four shots while making five birdies, but he was still projected to rise to 37th on the FedExCup rankings.

Behind him, Thriston Lawrence closed out a solid week with a two-under-par 69 lifting him to a share of 36th on eight-under-par.

In addition to 300 FedExCup points and $720,000, Gotterup secured an exemption into the PGA Championship and debuts in The Sentry and the Players Championship in 2025.
