Ian Snyman saved his best for last on Sunday with an eagle on 17 lifting him to a six-under-par 65 in the closing round of the Asian Tour’s 2024 opening event, the IRS Prima Malaysian Open at the Mines Resort & Golf Club.

His bogey-free effort, which also included four birdies on the front nine as he turned in 31, lifted him to 14-under-par for the tournament and a share of 22nd place. He was nine shots off the pace set by the winner, David Puig of Spain. The LIV player showed his worth in a pressurised tournament situation with a pair of closing nine-under-par 62s to reach 23-under-par for a two-shot margin over Korean’s Jeunghun Wang.

Snyman hit 13 of 14 fairways on his way to his 65, and made every single green in regulation. He had 32 putts in his final round, which was not as good as the 26 he had in his second round.

David Meyers, who was playing in his first Asian Tour event since earning his card at Qualifying School, missed the cut after he followed an opening one-over 72 with a one-under 70. The cut fell at three-under.
