Only a late double-bogey on Friday kept Ian Snyman from grabbing a share of the halfway lead in the Asian Tour’s Moutai Singapore Open at the Singapore Island Country Club.
Snyman had reached nine-under by the time he walked off the 13th green. He made par on the 14th, and, seemingly out of nowhere, dropped two shots on the 15th. He managed to steady himself and parred his way home in seven-under 65 in a share of second through halfway.
He was one of 10 players on 10-under for the tournament, two shots off the lead. Up front, it was Korea’s Soomin Lee, who fired an eight-under 64.
Snyman’s front nine was impressive: He birdied the first, third and fifth and made an eagle-two on the par-four sixth. He picked up two more shots on the seventh and ninth to turn in 29. With two more gains on 12 and 13, he was on his way to a very low one. But then came that double.
The $2-million event, being played for the first time since 2022, is the penultimate stop this year on The International Series, the series of upper-tier events on the Asian Tour that offer a pathway to the LIV Golf League.
Lee said: “I started a little slow but bounced back. Yesterday I felt something really good with my putter. I felt if I hit fairways and greens, I would have chances today. That’s why I played well today.”
