Ian Snyman closed with a two-under-par 69 on Sunday in the final round of the Asian Tour’s New Zealand Open at Millbrook Golf Resort in Arrowtown, New Zealand to take a share of sixth place for his best finish of the season so far.
He overcame a double-bogey six on the sixth hole after opening with five successive pars by not dropping another shot and making four birdies on his way home to finish on 14-under-par. That was just three strokes off the winning total of 17-under reached by Japan’s Takahiro Hataji. Hataji closed with a four-under 67 to edge veteran Scott Hend by one shot after the Australian three-putted the final hole.
Australia’s Mattew Griffin and Anthony Quayle shared third with the leading New Zealander Josh Geary, while Snyman shared sixth with three other players.
The share of sixth will bump Snyman into 18th place on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, where the leading South African is Louis Oosthuizen in fourth place after his runner-up finish in Oman last week.
