After a missed cut a week ago, Brandon Stone resumed his climb back up the list of the Official World Golf Ranking with his share of 10th in the DP World Tour’s FedEx Open de France lifting him into 298th place.

It was a climb of 28 places for the man who had reached as high as 67th on the official rankings back in 2016, the year he burst on the scene with his victory in the South African Open Championship, and getting back inside the world’s top 300 on the back of some regained consistency is an important step for him.

He had slipped as low outside the world’s top 500 at the end of last year, and his subsequent career reset necessitated going back to his roots and regaining full status of the DP World Tour through the second-tier Challenge Tour. He also made time for some events on his home circuit, the Sunshine Tour, which is such an important basis for so many South African players.

There was minimal movement for players not involved with LIV Golf – with minor exceptions, like a 10-place climb to 338th for Casey Jarvis and a 10-place drop to 251st for Hennie du Plessis – as the South African top 10 according to the official rankings remains headed by Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Thriston Lawrence and Erik van Rooyen.

However, outside the country’s top 25, Justin Harding has climbed over 500 places over the last five weeks as his return from injury problems continues. He climbed 299 places to 1034th on the list after his share of 18th in the FedEx Open de France. While that is a long way off his best-ever position of 42nd achieved after his share of 12th in the 2019 Masters, it is gratifying to see him on the way back up the rankings.
