Brandon Stone caught alight during the second round on Thursday of the DP World Tour’s Porsche European Open in Hamburg, Germany, and his four-under-par 68 took him to level-par for the tournament and a share of 20th.
Stone made seven birdies and three bogeys during his round, and is six shots off the lead which is held by Jordan Smith of England after his 68 took him to the front. He leads by two from France’s Victor Perez.
Stone started his round on the 10th, and he didn’t need the bogey he made on 11 after his opening round of four-over left him in danger of missing the cut. But, in a typical Stone display. He reeled off four birdies in succession from the 14th to the 17th to turn in three-under. He made three birdies and two bogeys on his homeward stretch, and he is one of six players on level-par.
Another who is level was Richard Sterne, who signed for a two-over 74.
A further shot back on one-over was Justin Walters, who had a three-over 75. Darren Fichardt had a 73 to go to three-over for the tournament, and Zander Lombard, Thriston Lawrence and Wilco Nienaber all made the cut on the number on four-over after rounds of 71, 70 and 74 respectively.
Daniel van Tonder, JC Ritchie and Haydn Porteous all missed the cut.
