Deon Germishuys had a strong finish on Sunday in the Challenge Tour’s Irish Challenge at The K Club in Palmer South, Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland as he carded a four-under-par 68 to take a share of fifth.

In the end, not many people were going to catch runaway winner Todd Clements of England, who also closed with a 68 to reach 19-under for the tournament. That was six shots clear of runner-up Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland, who had an astonishing run of six consecutive birdies on the front nine as he tried valiantly to pressurise Clements.

Germishuys climbed 14 spots on the leaderboard with his six birdies and two bogeys, and his performance paid off with a climb to 17th on the Challenge Tour rankings.

Tristen Strydom battled to a two-over 74, finishing the tournament on one-under in a share of 36th. Pieter Moolman and Rupert Kaminski also had tough closing rounds, signing for six-over 78 each. That left them on four-over and five-over respectively, in 53rd and 58th. Luke Jerling missed the cut.
