In his typical no-nonsense fashion, Chris Swanepoel reeled off a five-under-par 67 on Tuesday at Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate to lead 10 qualifiers into the Limpopo Championship which tees off on that course and Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate.

Swanepoel made seven birdies and two bogeys in his round, and held a one-stroke edge over Marthin Scheepers. Quintin Wilsnach was on three-under, with James Pennington, Stuart Smith and Coert Groenewald in a share of fourth on one-under.

The other qualifiers were Clayton Mansfield, Allister de Kock, Shalan Govender and Cameron Moralee, while Tumelo Malloyi, Alphius Kelapile and Leon Visser just missed out after rounds of two-over-par 74.

Swanepoel has won four times on the Sunshine Tour, with his last victory coming back in October 2015 in Port Elizabeth. He is seeking to regain a semblance of form after making just two cuts since the resumption of tournament play in South Africa in March 2021 after the COVID-19 lockdown.
