Despite dropping three strokes in the last two holes on Wednesday, Stals Swart had done enough to cruise to a five-stroke victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Srixon Series #3 at Serengeti Country Estate.
Even though he had that shaky finish, Swart still carded a three-under-par 69 in the final round. He reached nine-under for the 54 holes – 18 of which were on the Par-Three Championship course – and was well clear of amateur Jan-Hendrik Nieuwoudt whose superb charge with an eight-under-par 64 fell short.
Both Nieuwoudt and Swart turned in four-under-par 32 without dropping a shot, as did another amateur, Charl Barnard. Nieuwoudt kept up the relentless pace, as he made an eagle and two birdies on the back nine. Swart made birdies on 11 and 14, and then came the implosion at the end. He made double-bogey six on the 17th, and dropped another shot on the par-four 18th.
By that time, he was too far ahead to be caught, and Nieuwoudt’s superb round took him to four-under for the tournament – not enough to chase down Swart’s nine-under aggregate.
Sunshine Ladies Tour professional Kiera Floyd finished well, with her one-under 71 lifting her into third place on two-under-par.
Haydn Porteous, James Mack and first-round leader Dylan Mostert shared fourth on one-under after closing rounds of 72, 72 and 74 respectively.
