Kaleigh Telfer carded a one-under-par 71 in the first round of the Epson Tour’s Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek, Michigan to take a share of eighth place.

It was a bogey-free effort for Telfer as she made a birdie on the third hole after starting her round on the 10th, and kept the rest of her card clean with pars all the way through. She was in a six-way share of eighth, four strokes off the lead.

Up front, England’s Anita Uwadia carded a five-under-par 67, with just one bogey on her card putting her one shot ahead of Yue Zhang of China and Amari Avery of the United States. There were four players in a share of fourth on two-under-par.

Uwadia, who teed off in the more challenging afternoon wave, battled against the full force of the wind that swept through Battle Creek Country Club during the first round. Telfer was off in the morning in the first round.
