Retief Goosen closed his tournament in the PGA Tour Champions’ Simmons Bank Championship in Little Rock, Arkansas, on Sunday with a two-under-par 70 giving him a share of seventh place.
Four birdies and two bogeys saw the two-tine US Open champion finish on 12-under-par for the 54-hole tournament. That was five shots behind the winner, Padraig Harrington, who closed with a five-under-par 67 to hold off a charge from YE Yang of Korea. Yang came home in seven-under 65 to fall two strokes short at 15-under-par.
Goosen’s performance lifted him six places on the Charles Schwab Cup points list to 15th ahead of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship on November 7.
The leader of that list is still Ernie Els, who finished one stroke behind Goosen in a share of 12th after he closed with a seven-under-par 65.
