Dylan Frittelli carded a closing one-under-par 70 on Sunday to finish in a share of 14th in the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open one eight-under-par for the week.

After battling with an opening three-over-par 74, Frittelli fought back really well with rounds of 65 and 67 before his final round. He was 11 strokes behind the winner, Scottie Scheffler, who returned to world number one with his victory. Scheffler closed with a six-under 65 to reach nine-under and hold off Canada’s Nick Taylor by two shots. Jon Rahm was third, Justin Thomas fourth and a resurgent Jason Day fifth.

Frittelli made six birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey in his round, with one of his birdies coming on the stadium-surrounded par-three 16th.

Erik van Rooyen carded a closing three-under 68 to move to one-under for the tournament and a share of 50th.

Garrick Higgo and Christiaan Bezuidenhout missed the cut, as did Rory Sabbatini.
