Jayden Schaper carded a final round of level-par 72 on Sunday to finish in a share of fifth in the DP World Tour’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club on a tournament total of nine-under-par.
Schaper started the round in a share of third after three successive 69, and he bogeyed the second hole of the day. But he picked up three birdies on his way through the turn, and then dropped two late shots on the 14th and 15th. He ended up where he started the day on level-par, seven strokes behind the winner.
Haotong Li of China sank a lengthy birdie putt on the 18th to pull one ahead of Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark, after the Dane finished on 15-under-par. Brandon Robinson Thompson of England was third on 13-under and France’s Antoine Rozner fourth on 10-under. Schaper shared fifth with Martin Couvra of France and Ben Schmidt of England.
Schaper’s finish saw him climb 25 places on the Race to Dubai rankings to 29th.
Darren Fichardt also closed with a level-par 72 to stay at four-under for the tournament in a share of 21st. Wilco Nienaber had a one-over 73 and was in a share of 35th on two-under. Ryan van Velzen had a three-over 75 and finished in a share of 61st on three-over, while Casey Jarvis had a poor nine-over 81 and finished on seven-over in 66th.
