Robin Williams played himself into the top five on Sunday with his best round of the week as he closed with a four-under-par 68 to finish in a share of fifth in the Challenge Tour’s Challenge de España at Real Club Sevilla Golf in Seville, Spain.

It was a gutsy performance by the Sunshine Tour’s Rookie of the Year after he flew in to Spain directly from playing in the Sunshine Tour’s Tournament of Champions the week before. All his rounds were under par, and he closed with his best of the week.

He made six birdies in the final round, and fought off the effects of bogeys on the sixth and 11th to close at 11-under-par in a share of fifth with Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. He ended up three strokes off the winning 14-under-par by Joel Moscatel of Spain. Moscatel won by one from Tapio Pulkkanen of Finland and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark.

Williams picked up birdies on four, five and nine, while dropping a shot on the sixth. He dropped another on the 10th, but three birdies in four holes from the 13th rounded out his scoring for the week.

His performance will see him rise 11 places in the Race to Mallorca rankings to 19th. The top 20 on the Road to Mallorca at the end of the season all earn promotion to the DP World Tour, but Williams is already assured of a spot thanks to his second-place finish on the Sunshine Tour’s 2023-24 Order of Merit.

The other South African to make the cut in the tournament, Bryce Easton, carded a closing one-over 73 to finish on four-under in a share of 27th.
