It was a tough day at the office on Saturday for Cara Gorlei as she slipped to a four-over-par 77 in the third round of the Ladies European Tour’s Magical Kenya Open at Vipingo Ridge.
Having led through the first two rounds, the South African started off her third round with a double-bogey, and things stayed difficult for her, with four more bogeys on her card as she slipped to one-under-par for the tournament ahead of the final round. That was eight shots off the lead which was shared by Alessandra Fanali of Italy and Thailand’s Shannon Tan. The duo sat in a share of third place at the halfway stage of the tournament and posted rounds of six-under-par 67 to have a five-shot lead over third placed Samantha Bruce of the Philippines.
Gorlei did manage to make two birdies to limit the damage, but it was a wake-up call for her after she earned her LET playing privileges at Lalla Aicha Q-School in December. It is going to take some heroics in the final round for her to get back on even terms with the leaders.
Lee-Anne Pace had a two-over 75 in the third round and was in a share of 24th on three-over. Nicole Garcia signed for a one-over 74, and, at five-over, was in a share of 43rd.
