Paula Reto closed with a level-par 71 on Sunday to finish in a share of 54th in the LPGA Tour’s Shoprite LPGA Classic in Galloway, New Jersey.
It was a quiet week for South Africans – those left playing on the circuits in the US after the raid on resources by LIV Golf – in the United States, and Reto finished on one-under for the 54-hole tournament, 11 shots behind the winner Brooke Henderson of Canada, who won in a sudden-death play-off from Lindsey Weaver-Wright of the United States.
Reto made a birdie on the third hole, and pars all the way until the 15th, where she gave that shot back with a bogey there.
Ashleigh Buhai missed the cut by one with rounds of 75 and 68.
On the PGA Tour in the RBC Canadian Open, Dylan Frittelli finished in a share of 61st on three-over for the tournament after he closed with a two-over-par 72. He was a long wat behind the winner, Rory McIlroy, who underlined exactly what the difference is between genuine tournament play and exhibition golf with his hard-fought win over Tony Finau and Justin Thomas. McIlroy closed with a 62 to move to 19-under, two clear of Finau, and four ahead of Thomas, both of whom had closing 64s.
Dawie van der Walt had a closing one-under 69, but finished 70th and last on eight-over for the tournament.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, MJ Daffue had an unusual missed cut in the BMW Charity Pro-Am in South Carolina, but it would have given him a good chance to prepare more thoroughly for his debut appearance in the US Open this week.
On the PGA Tour Champions circuit, Retief Goosen closed with a three-under-par 69 on Sunday in the American Family Insurance Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, to finish in a share of 35th on four-under-par, 10 shots behind winner Tongchai Jaidee of Thailand, who won his maiden title on the circuit.
David Frost was on one-over after his level-par 72 closing round, in a share of 65th.
