Veteran Divan van den Heever didn’t play a practice round at Magalies Park Golf Club and carried his own bag on Tuesday as he played his way in to the MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood with a sparkling eight-under-par 64.

He didn’t drop a shot around the tight layout just down the road from the host course, and made four birdies on each nine to lead another veteran, Chris Swanepoel and eight other players into the field for the tournament co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour. Swanepoel also had a bogey-free journey around the course for his six-under-par 66.

Yubin Jung and England’s Chris Cannon shared third on five-under, with Stefan Wears-Taylor, Nikhil Rama, Pierre Pellegrin of Mauritius and Wynand Dingle sharing fifth on four-under.

Makhetha Mazibuko and Kyle Barker survived a five-man play-off for the final two spots, with Madalitso Muthiya of Zambia, Jason Smith and Andre De Decker the unlucky losers.
