Erik van Rooyen carded his second successive five-under-par 67 on Friday as he climbed inside the top 10 at the halfway stage of the PGA Tour’s Myrtle Beach Classic at the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Van Rooyen made six birdies and a bogey as he reached 10-under-par for the tournament and a share of eighth place heading in to the weekend. The tournament, taking place at the same time as the PGA Tour Signature Event at Quail Hollow, was being led by Chris Gotterup, who had an eight-under to move to 12-under. That was one clear of Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, with Jorge Campillo of Spain in third on 10-under.
Thriston Lawrence also had a five-under 67 in his second round, and he moved to five-under for the tournament and a share of 30th as he continues to spend some time in the United States ahead of the PGA Championship next week.
Garrick Higgo’s four-under 68 was not enough to let him make the cut as he reached level-par for 36 holes.
