Erik van Rooyen carded a level-par 70 on Saturday in the PGA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open, but that saw him drop 13 places on the leaderboard into a share of 26th at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario.
Van Rooyen, who needs a strong finish in the tournament in order to stay inside the FedExCup top 50 to get into the next PGA Tour Signature Event, the Memorial, next week, is currently projected to stay at 48th – so he needs to finish this tournament well.
He started and finished his third round with bogeys on one and 18, and had another two on six and 15. He made four bogeys to balance those drops out, but was unable to get into red figures for his round.
At four-under-par for the tournament, he was 10 strokes behind the leader, Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, who made an eagle on 17 to reach 14-under. He was four strokes clear of the leading Canadian, Mackenzie Hughes. Hughes carded a three-under-par 67 to share second with Ben Griffin of the United States and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox. Tommy Fleetwood was one of four players who shared fifth on nine-under-par after he had a superb six-under 64 in the third round.
Garrick Higgo signed for a level-par 70 in the third round, and he was on two-under for the tournament in a share of 36th.
