Daniel van Tonder finished with a flourish on Sunday with a five-under-par 65 in the final round of the Asian Tour’s SJM Macao Open at Macau Golf and Country Club for a share of 23rd.
It was a third-round two-over-par 72 which prevented him from finishing higher after his first two rounds of 67 and 69. He finished in a share of 23rd, while two strokes fewer in his third round would have put him inside the top 20.
He made a birdie on the third hole in his final round, and dropped his only shot of the day on the sixth. Birdies on seven and nine saw him turn in two-under 32, and then three birdies on the back nine, on the 13th, 14th and 17th, saw him home – although he would have been frustrated at making par on the only two par-fives on the course on the homeward stretch.
Also in a share of 23rd were Ian Snyman and Jaco Ahlers after rounds of level-par 70 and one-under 69 respectively.
Yurav Premlall rounded out his week with a two-under 68 to move to six-under and a share of 29th.
David Meyers had a second three-over 73 in a row to finish in a share of 65th on six-over-par.
