Veteran Darren Fichardt was the best of the South Africans at the end of the week when he finished in a share of 13th on Sunday in the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters at The Belfry.

Although he is doing very well on the Legends Tour already, Fichardt still has a shot at retaining his status on the main tour if he produces a couple more good performances in the remaining 10 tournaments on the schedule ahead of the DP World Tour Championship on November 13.

Fichardt is currently in 139th place on the Race to Dubai rankings, and he needs to get inside the top 113 as things currently stand to be assured of full status for next season. If he climbs inside the top 129, he will gain limited status.

Fichardt closed with four birdies and a bogey in the final round at The Belfry, reaching eight-under-par for the tournament. Up front, Swede Alex Noren held his nerve for a one-stroke victory at 16-under-par over Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark and New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori.

Next best of the South Africans was Brandon Stone, who briefly led the tournament during the third round at 10-under-par. A near disastrous implosion during moving day, during which he made four bogeys and a double-bogey from the sixth to the 12th, and concluded that four-over 76 with another double-bogey on the 18th, left him on five-under for the tournament after he closed with a two-under 70. He was in a share of 27th.
