Veteran Brandon Pieters carded a seven-under-par 65 on Monday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Bushveld Tour’s Srixon Series #4 at Benoni Country Club.

Pieters, a four-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, which included a purple patch in 2009 when he won three tournaments, went bogey-free in his opening round, and that put him two shots ahead of amateur Jan-Hendrik Nieuwoudt.

Nieuwoudt made just a single bogey for his opening five-under-par 67, and he, in turn, was two strokes clear of third-placed Jason Froneman’s three-under-par 69.

Amateurs Hannes Strooh and Jonathan Wilsenach shared fourth place on two-under-par 70 with Sunshine Ladies Tour professional Kaiyuree Moodley. Moodley made four birdies and two bogeys in her opening round.
